NEW DELHI: Congress president Rahul Gandhi parried questions on Madhya Pradesh chief minister Kamal Nath’s controversial comment that migrants from UP and Bihar were eating into locals’ job share, saying he would have to ascertain the facts.

Asked about the row in Parliament House complex on Tuesday, Rahul Gandhi said, “I will discuss this. I am not aware of this issue.” While the Congress chief launched an offensive against Prime Minister Narendra Modi over farm loan waivers questioning his inaction for four-and-a-half years and threatening that the opposition would “not let him sleep at night” unless he provided a loan amnesty, the aggression was marred by the controversy triggered by Nath’s comments.

On his first day in office, chief minister Nath proposed a measure limiting incentives to business firms which reserve 70% of jobs for locals from MP. Nath’s comments invited strong attacks from BJP leaders from UP and Bihar who likened him to Raj Thackeray, known for his diatribes against north Indians.
