NEW DELHI: As West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee is in Delhi for AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal’s ‘Remove Dictatorship, Save Democracy’ rally, posters with tongue-in-cheek messages have cropped up at several places “welcoming” the TMC chief.

The posters carrying captions like ‘Didi, smile please, you are in a democracy’ and ‘Welcome to Delhi, where democracy is alive and kicking’ have been put up by some group known as ‘Youth For Democracy’.

Taking a dig at Mamata Banerjee, another poster says, “Didi, no one is going to prevent you from addressing people here.”

The posters feature caricatures of the TMC chief in her trademark white saree. Large numbers of such banners have been installed at major areas of Jantar Mantar road, Bang Bhawan (Hally Road) and Windsor Palace Circle Area.

Just ahead of the Lok Sabha elections, Mamata Banerjee is in Delhi for Kejriwal’s ‘Tanashahi Hatao, Loktantra Bachao’ (Remove Dictatorship, Save Country) rally. Along with Mamata Banerjee, Andhra Pradesh chief minister Chandrababu Naidu and other opposition leaders are also expected to take part in the mega rally.

This is Mamata’s first visit to Delhi after her recent face-off with the ruling BJP and CBI over Kolkata police commissioner Rajeev Kumar in connection with Saradha chit fund scam.

The TMC chief had in January organised a rally of opposition parties in Kolkata, in which she appealed all the leaders to unite in order to oust the Narendra Modi government at the Centre.
